The Associazione Alta Via dei Monti Liguri was founded in 1994, the co-founders and those of today are: C.A.I. (Club Alpino Italiano), F.I.E. (Federazione Italiana Escursionisti) and the Union Camere Liguria.
The idea of the establishment of the Association grew from the regions need to create an operative instrument under the L.R. 25 January 1993, a law for the promotion and fruition of the paths along the High Way of the Ligurian Mountains.
The Association, no profit, has its legal seat and headquarters in the Unione delle Camere di Commercio Liguri situated in Genoa.
The aim of the Association is the promotion, maintenance and development of the routes crossing the Ligurian Apennines denominated the “Alta Via dei Monti Liguri” and also the protection of the application and the correct execution of the regulations indicated in the regional law.
The project concerning regional activity of the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri demonstrates the determination of the Ligurian region to promote the rural and mountainous areas, by way of its own branch of initiative: the Associazione Alta Via dei Monti Liguri. The aim combines the attention and protection of this extraordinary environment by developing the territorial and rural quality of the area, without spoiling it, rather integrating with existent resources, and from here we direct our attention on the development of an environmental tourism of high standard, recuperating the renown and image of the itinerary.
Management of the administration of the route (which runs through the territories of nearly all the Communes of the Ligurian inland and of the four Provinces) the singling out of theme itineraries and the improvement of mobility services are some of the aims in view.
A closer look at the initiatives being undertaken by the Associazione Alta Via dei Monti Liguri are:
• the enhancing and upgrading of the pathways of the High Way of the Ligurian Mountains .
• the programming and the predisposing of the maintenance activities regarding the itineraries and notices.
• the predisposition of the maintenance plan and the editing of the specific map.
• the coordination of the activities promoted by the boards, associations and private owners or institutions interested in the itineraries or generally in the hiking.
• The predisposition for the activity of territorial animation too meet the needs of visitors and excursionists and for proposals for service structures.
• The protection of the excursionist according to the stipulation of the conventions and proposals for improving the reception structures. To this end, have been listed the general regulations and norms of conduct and the project for the development of services for tourism.
• The carrying out and the scrutinizing of modifications, integrations and variations concerning the High Way the Ligurian Mountains.
• The formulation of proposals for the improvement and enhancement of the route.
• The individuation and management of the officially connected paths.
The “Regional Programme for the High Way of the Ligurian Mountains” is annually proposed according to the law, with the help, sustain and above all supervision of the Ligurian Region, Protected Areas and Parks Division, which protect and keep an eye on the excursionist patrimony.
The actuation of the programme is sustained by special regional funds.
The activity of maintenance and up keep of the notice-boards and of the state of the pathways are under the care of volunteer workers of the C.A.I. and F.I.E., which are active and fundamental for going ahead with the annual programme.
Future Objectives
The Associazione Alta Via dei Monti Liguri, in the past, has always relied on voluntary members of the C.A.I. and F.I.E. and is now is looking for new ideas, transforming itineraries and regional paths into an excursion and touristic product.
This transformation aims to promote the Ligurian natural and landscape potentials that become so assets accessible that can be self-supporting (supporting the micro economy of the inland).
Rural and excursion tourism today represents now more than ever a promising potentiality, both for the ever growing demand on the market and also for the possibility of development it offers to the mountain areas and the inland.
In order to put into motion this new policy of promotion and development of the patrimony of the High Way of the Ligurian Mountains, the Association is slowly transforming its approach endeavouring to make concrete proposals in territory matters, 'easily reached' and integrated (no longer just hiking, but also gastronomy, culture and folk and historical traditions).
• Fundamental for the competitiveness of the 'the rural and excursion' activity for the Association are:
• Consideration for the clients
• The right congruence between what is being offered and the territory (in relation to the objectives and real potentiality)
• The integration and the diversification of the proposals/opportunities in the search for particularities and satisfactions.
• The offer of something which is exclusive and integrated which unites sport, natural surroundings, gastronomy, culture and entertainment (the tourist satisfaction level should be at 360°)
• Integration of the present services on the territory.
